Where is the Hong Kong Museum of History?

The Hong Kong Museum of History is at 100 Chatham Road South in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, beside the Hong Kong Science Museum. Kowloon Harbourfront Hotel offers a stay about an 18-minute walk from the museum.

The museum says it is within walking distance of Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, Hung Hom and East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR stations.

Bus and minibus stops are outside the museum, and the Hong Kong government visitor guide identifies Exit D1 of Hung Hom Station as an access point. For onward journeys around the district, you can plan with a guide to getting around Hong Kong from Hung Hom.

What can you see at the museum?

What can you see at the museum?

The museum presents historical exhibitions in a complex covering 17,500 square metres, with 8,000 square metres devoted to exhibitions. Its permanent exhibition is called “The Hong Kong Story”; other galleries and displays cover a range of historical subjects.

The museum’s history reaches back to the City Hall Art Gallery and Museum, established in 1962. That institution split into the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Museum of History in 1975. After occupying temporary accommodation in Kowloon Park, the museum moved to its Chatham Road South premises in July 1998.

For a second museum visit nearby, the Hong Kong Science Museum near Hung Hom is next door, making it easy to consider both in the same outing.

What else can you pair with a museum visit?

The adjacent Hong Kong Science Museum is the most direct pairing if you want to visit two museums in the same area. For a change of pace outdoors, you can also plan time on the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade.
